As we progress into the 2nd quarter of 2023, spring has arrived, and we have had a very busy start to the year. Construction is nearing completion on a number of our projects ready for summer handovers, we have won a variety of exciting appointments, and we have some promotion news!

Work has been progressing well at our ‘Woodland House’ project, our site in Roughlee, and at our contemporary hillside house up Whalley Banks.

We have been working on the tender stages for several of our schemes, to get projects booked in with our client’s chosen contractors as soon as possible. Some of our tenders include a super home in Middop and a bespoke house transformation and extension on Brockhall Village.

As usual, planning has been a key theme of the last few months. We have submitted 10 planning applications across 7 different local authorities, from Full applications to Householder, Variation of Condition applications to Outline, and Conditions discharge applications.

One of the most common questions people ask is how long does planning take to make decisions at the moment? I would say that Pendle and Ribble Valley are providing decisions within their 8-12 week decision period, whilst Rossendale, Burnley and West Lancs are still experiencing delays. Generally, pre-applications are severely delayed across all local authorities.

In February, we attended a neighbour consultation at Sawley Village Hall to present one of our projects to members of the community prior to us submitting planning. We received very positive feedback and support from the residents, so its fingers crossed now for a positive result in planning.

In other planning news, we have obtained approval for a beautiful new-build equestrian property, located adjacent to a Grade II Listed building, surrounded by open countryside and views of Pendle Hill.

In design news, we have just presented a concept design for a unique farmhouse and barn conversion in Blacko; we have designed a historic home extension in Read; and we have been working on a new-build eco-home in Edenfield.

March marks International Women’s Day, however every day is IWD at ZMA with our strong female-led team! We celebrated the occasion by visiting one of our favourite restaurants, The Three Fishes, for a guaranteed culinary masterpiece.

Carrying on the theme of celebration, we are delighted to announce Robyn has been promoted to Associate Architect. Robyn is highly knowledgeable in all RIBA work stages and is instrumental in the delivery of every ZMA project, from showcasing designs via 3D walk-throughs to technical drawing, and administering building contracts.
