OPEN COUNTRYSIDE

BUILT INTO the hillside, with panoramic VIEWS AND A hidden glazed COURTYARD
THE site
The site is located within the Ribble Valley Open Countryside with the most magnificent panoramic views across the Ribble Valley and beyond. Our clients have lived on the site for over 20 years in a 3-bedroom property which no longer worked for how they want to live. Being on a hillside site, the garden was at first floor level and was disconnected from the house by the driveway.

A SPECTACULAR home designed to EXPERIENCE THE unique LANDSCAPE in which it sits.

THE brief
Our clients love their site, garden and exceptional views, however, they wanted to create a future-proofed home for themselves and their family. The brief was to create an outstanding family home with everything they could want from a property. Our clients wanted to create a rural but contemporary home, designed for how they want to live and enjoy their home with their family.
THE solution
The clients required a significant uplift of accommodation which far exceeded the policy limit for an extension, the proposed design replaces their existing property with a 3-storey detached dwelling which references their original property but incorporates contemporary features, and meets the highest levels of sustainability.
The new dwelling has been re-positioned to connect to their existing garden which is located at first floor level. The property is an ‘upside-down house’ with the living spaces on the middle floor connecting to the existing high-level garden, the design includes a hidden glazed courtyard with the swimming pool, spa, gym, bar, and entertaining space wrapping round the courtyard. The design includes a lift to futureproof their home, along with a 6-car garage. Various different outdoor terraces have been incorporated to allow the clients to blend indoor / outdoor living despite the weather.

PLANNING
Officer
“The site is within a remote area of open countryside, though outside the AONB. On plan the replacement Higher Newfield Edge appears large, but a proportion of the ground floor will be subterranean with a grass roof, and whilst modern the frontage will be fairly modest in its design and respect the vernacular. It is considered that overall, the impact will not be significant or harmful. Following discussions with the architect, visualisations were provided which demonstrate the impact and it is considered that it will not have a detrimental impact on the landscape and the replacement dwelling will incorporate various eco-friendly design features.”
