THE site

The site is located in the Whalley Green Belt, within the Whalley Banks hamlet. The property is a traditional rural home surrounded by open countryside, and the clients wanted to create a primary living space which maximised natural light and views of their garden.

THE brief

The property did not have an open plan kitchen dining living space, the rear elevation had small windows facing towards their garden, which created a dark interior with a poor connection to their outstanding garden and countryside views.

The house also had a small porch with no storage. The client’s brief was to create an open plan kitchen dining living space which maximised natural light, outward views and flowed seamlessly to their garden terrace. They also wanted to create a more impressive front entrance with coat and boot storage.

THE solution

The solution was a single-storey extension to both the front and rear, creating an impressive entrance porch with oversized front door, and much needed coat and boot storage. The rear extension connects their kitchen to the garden by creating a contemporary open plan kitchen dining living space with large glazed sliding doors and a feature corner window angling the outward views down the garden, whilst flooding natural light into the heart of their home.
